Emotional Competency

Definition:  Shame.

1. Feeling badly about yourself.

2. Dissatisfaction from your assessment of a decrease in stature.

3. Disapproving of your own actions or accomplishments.

4. Failure to meet my own standard of living .

5. Absence or deficiency of self-love.

6. Feeling inferior.

7. Loss of  honor.

8. Blaming yourself  for making a mistake.

9. Knowing  you did wrong when it was possible to do right.

10. Not meeting your responsibility to yourself.

Shame is closely related to, but distinct from guilt. Guilt is a failure to meet other’s standards of behavior. Shame tells us “you have not done your best”. Shame is personal, while guilt is public. Shame reflects on the “human being”, and guilt reflects on the “human doing”.
